John said that somebody told him prior to coming on the trip that it’s common for people on cruises to gain weight and that one estimate he heard was a pound a day. After being on this ship for close to a month I’m pleased to say that none of us have gained a pound a day. However, I can say that I absolutely can see how we could easily gain a ton of weight.

There are three “fancy” restaurants on the ship – the grand dining area and two specialty restaurants (Italian and a steakhouse). In addition, there is the Terrace Café (the buffet), Waves Grill (for paninis, surf and turf, fries, etc.), and ice cream stations. On top of breakfast, lunch, and dinner, there is 24/7 room service if you’re wanting a snack in between meals, and pastries/treats are served during the 4:00 tea service. Ordering a drink? Here, have some pretzels, chips, and nuts. Watching a football game? Here, have some popcorn. Oh, and don’t forget the chocolate on the pillow at night.

I think we all have our favorite foods at this time. Ryan has been sampling all of the specialty ice creams, usually in a waffle cone. Matthew has been trying all the different kinds of steaks / meat, and seems to have a particular fondness for the ribeye. John hasn’t gone a day without eating shrimp – jumbo or otherwise. And I’m loving all the fish – especially mahi mahi.

We aren’t food photographers, nor are we the people who photograph our food for Instagram shots. So give me a break with the photos below. But hopefully they’ll give you a feel for the types of food we’re having, and you’ll understand if you begin to see us grow in our photos over the next few months! (Hopefully kidding… we’re trying to work out and walk a lot to avoid that… especially since that’s a lot easier than cutting back on our eating!)
